The big controversy at UFC 211, an event held last Saturday (11), in Dallas (USA), was due to the confrontation between Eddie Alvarez and Dustin poirier, which closed the preliminary card. The fight was interrupted after the former champion landed a four-point knee on “Diamante”, who ended up being knocked out and unable to continue. Referee Herb Dean interpreted that the blow released by Alvarez was accidental, thus defining the duel as I didn't answer (fight without result).

Poirier, however, did not agree with the decision, and according to a publication on the website 'MMA Fighting', the fighter's manager revealed that the lightweight intends to file an appeal to change the result of the fight. According to Dustin's team, Alvarez should have been disqualified, which would have resulted in the former champion's defeat.

After the controversy, Dana White, president of the UFC, admitted that the use of instant replay for cases like last Saturday could help in the referees' final decisions.

“Lorenzo Fertitta called me today and said he needed to resolve this and arrange an instant replay. (The decision to give a No Contest) It was wrong. They need to resolve this. (…) We are the guys who drive the bus (of regulation), the other promotions never had to worry about that. Let's keep doing this. I don't want to limit myself to where we go, but let's find a solution. The sport is only 17 years old. Many things need to be resolved, but this sport is a sport in progress”, said the president, in an interview after the event.

In December 2016, during UFC 207, the fight between Tim means e Alex Cowboy ended in a similar way. On that occasion, the North American landed illegal blows on the Brazilian, who was unable to return to the fight. The result was declared as 'no contest' and the rematch between the two was scheduled for UFC Fortaleza, in March this year, with Cowboy winning by submission.
