The UFC 211 card, which takes place this Saturday (13), in Dallas (USA), suffered a last-minute loss. The flyweight Henry Cejudo suffered a hand injury and was removed from the duel against Sergio Pettis, which would open the main portion of the event. As there are only three days left until the event, the organization would not have time to find an opponent for Pettis, who was also removed from the show. The information was published on Wednesday night by the “MMA Fighting” website.

“Two weeks ago, I injured my hand sparring and went to the doctor to have it checked out, as I couldn't punch or practice grappling. The doctor saw the x-ray and said it wasn't broken. I stopped for a week and a half to deflate it, but as soon as I arrived in Dallas, in the first gauntlet I did to try to get my timing back, I felt severe pain in my wrist and hand. I contacted the UFC to see if we could get a cortisone shot. They sent a specialist who said I had a cyst on my wrist and the possibility of a torn ligament. According to him, the cortisone injection could end up doing more harm than good and that it would be crazy to fight”, Cejudo explained.

“It’s a shitty feeling, man. This has never happened to me before. I invested a lot of time and effort into this preparation. I was three days away from the performance of my life,” said Pettis, frustrated at not being able to fight.

Pettis, however, will receive the scholarship for the duel if he makes weight this Friday morning, when the athletes' official weigh-in takes place. Without the flyweight fight, the fight between David Branch and Krzysztof Jotko, valid for the middleweight category, leaves the preliminary card heading towards the main one. The event will feature 13 fights.
