Ultimate makes trilogy between Werdum and Overeem official for UFC 213

Now it's official! Former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum He already has a set date, opponent and place to try to return to a title fight: he will face the Dutchman alistair overeem at UFC 213, July 8th, in Las Vegas (USA), in the week of International Fight Week. The information was confirmed by the Ultimate website itself.

The confrontation is a trilogy, as the two fighters have already faced each other on two occasions. The first of them was in the distant year of 2006, when the Brazilian won by submission, in the now extinct Pride. The rematch took place five years later, in 2011, at Strikeforce. On that occasion, 'The Reem' got revenge and defeated Werdum by unanimous decision from the judges. Interestingly, both were hired by the UFC after the fight.

At 39 years old, Werdum is coming off a victory over Travis Browne at UFC 203, in September 2016. This was the Brazilian's only fight after losing the belt to Miocic in May 2016, when he was knocked out by the current champion at UFC 198, in Curitiba (PR). Previously, he had won the interim heavyweight title by knocking out Mark Hunt at UFC 180, in 2014, and unified the belts by submitting the previously linear champion Cain Velazquez at UFC 188, in June 2015.

Former division challenger Overeem last competed in March of this year, when he knocked out Mark Hunt at UFC 209. At 36 years old, 'The Reem' has seven wins and four losses in the organization, having beaten former champions like Brock Lesnar, Junior Gypsy, Frank mir e Andrei Arlovski.

In addition to Werdum, another Brazilian confirmed on the show is Thiago Marreta, which faces Gerald meerschaert. Still without the main fight defined, UFC 213 will also feature a bantamweight title fight between cody garbrandt e TJ Dillashaw, the return of Robbie Lawler against Donald Cerrone and heavyweights Travis Browne and Alexey Oliynyk measuring strength in search of recovery.
