Belfort calls on fans to say goodbye to UFC Rio: 'I'm counting on you all'

Vitor belfort wants to count on the support of the fans in his farewell to MMA, scheduled for UFC 212, June 3, in Rio de Janeiro, against Nate Marquardt. Through a social network, the Brazilian asked fans to attend the day of the fight, and praised his long career in the sport.

“I started my journey 20 years ago, at UFC 12 and exactly 200 events later, on June 3rd, I will be having my last fight in the organization at UFC 212 in my hometown, Rio de Janeiro. I count on the support of all of you in the arena so that I have the opportunity to personally thank each of you who have always been with me. Let’s go together”, wrote the Phenomenon.

At just turned 40, Belfort has been fighting MMA professionally since 1997. The Brazilian was champion of the UFC 12 heavyweight GP and, in the 46th edition of the event, he became light heavyweight champion, after beating Randy Couture. After leaving Ultimate to fight in other promotions, the Fenômeno returned to the promotion in 2009. During his new stint in the UFC, Vitor competed for the middleweight title on two occasions, losing to Anderson Silva e Chris Weidman. He comes from three consecutive defeats, the most recent to Kelvin Gastelum, in March this year, at UFC Fortaleza.
