The UFC appears willing to “fish” for the main WSOF fighters, while the event goes through a period of restructuring. After signing the organization's former bantamweight champion, Marlon Moraes, Ultimate also hired Justin gaethje, the first and only owner of the event's lightweight belt. A few months ago, the organization chaired by Dana White had already signed with David Branch, who held the World Series middleweight and light heavyweight titles.

The announcement was made by the WSOF president himself, former fighter Ray Sefo, who wished Gaethje luck in the UFC, announcing the agreement before Ultimate itself officially signed the North American. The athlete thanked his former boss for his votes, also confirming that he signed with the main MMA promotion in the world.

Undefeated in his career, Gaethje is considered the main lightweight in the world outside the UFC, along with the current champion of the category in Bellator, Michael chandler. “The Highlight” has 17 wins in 17 fights, with 14 knockouts, one submission and just two victories by decision. He became known for the two big fights he had with Peruvian Luis Palomino, winning both by knockout. Gaethje is coming off a victory over Brazilian Luiz Buscapé in the WSOF debut in New York, on December 31st of last year.

The WSOF recently announced that it will soon change its name to the Professional Fighters League and will promote champions in a tournament format. The idea is that your fighters have monthly salaries, rather than bags only when they fight.
