Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones fight for the belt at UFC 214

The long-awaited rematch between Daniel Cormier e Jon Jones The date and location are already set: the two will face each other at UFC 214, on July 29th, which will take place in the city of Anaheim, California (USA), in a duel valid for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg). This is the third time that the second fight between Cormier and Jones has been scheduled. In the two previous opportunities, it was canceled at UFC 197, due to Cormier's injury, and at UFC 200, due to drug doping. Jon Jones. In their first meeting, in January 2015, Jones, who at the time was still the lineal light heavyweight champion, beat Cormier in a unanimous decision by the judges. The fight became one of the most anticipated among MMA fans due to the feud between the athletes, which came to blows in a historic mess during a promotional event.

Cormier won the light heavyweight belt in his first fight against Anthony Johnson, in May 2015. At the time, “Rumble” would face Jon Jones for the title at UFC 187, but the then champion lost his position after being involved in an accident while driving under the influence of drugs and drink. DC replaced 'Bones' and beat Johnson via submission. Since then, he has defended his title against Alexander Gustafson, at UFC 192,  and again against Johnson, at UFC 210. in addition to winning Anderson Silva in a fight that wasn't worth the title, at UFC 200.

Jones was division champion from 2011 to 2015, having made eight consecutive title defenses. After losing the belt due to extra-octagon problems, he returned to fight in April last year, when he defeated Ovince St Preux at UFC 197 and won the interim light heavyweight belt. Last July, he was suspended for one year by USADA (US Anti-Doping Agency) after being caught in an anti-doping test on the eve of UFC 200, in July 2016. The penalty was applied retroactively, meaning the former Light heavyweight champion could return to the octagon in July of this year.
