The light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier almost loses his belt on the scales this Friday morning (7). With a fight scheduled for UFC 210 this Saturday (8), against Anthony Johnson, DC did not initially make weight during the official weigh-in, falling 550g short of 93kg. light heavyweight limits. In the new weigh-in format, with fighters needing to reach the limit in the morning and, in the afternoon, only do face-offs, it is not common for a fighter to have a second chance. To the North American website MMA Fighting, the New York Athletic Commission assured that DC's second attempt was valid and the duel with Anthony Johnson it's official.
In the champion's favor is the fact that his own opponent weighed exactly 550g below the 93kg limit. Since “Rumble” weighed himself after Cormier, it is possible that the scale was incorrectly adjusted.
In the new format, the Athletic Commissions open two hours in the morning before the event for fighters to show up and make weight.
