Will Brooks arrived in the UFC in June 2016 with the status of former Bellator lightweight champion. In Ultimate, however, the North American has not yet impressed, having only recorded one victory, against Ross Pearson, and one defeat, against the Brazilian Alex Cowboy. Despite the less than encouraging start, Brooks guarantees that his goal remains to win the belt in the under-70kg category.

“I know everyone expects me to say the same thing: ‘I’m going to be the lightweight champion.’ I'm not saying that, but I believe it. I know my ability, I know that if the real Will Brooks shows up on the night of any competition, I'm capable of beating anyone in this game. I know my abilities. (…) So I'm very, very confident that I'm going to be the lightweight champion at some point. Maybe not next week or the week after that, but it will happen. I just know this. I feel it in my bones”, declared the former Bellator, in an interview with ‘Fox Sports’ (USA).

Without fighting since October 2016, Will returns to action this Saturday, the 8th, when he faces Charles of the Bronx at UFC 210, in Buffalo (USA). For him, the Brazilian is not at his level, but he can force him to do his best inside the Octagon.

“He’s not at my level. I feel like most people think, 'Well, he (Charles) isn't on Will's level.' “So, he will try to reach a high level and impose his pace, which will bring out the best in me. One of the greatest examples of my career is the fight against Michael chandler. He’s one of the best guys I’ve ever faced, and I believe that type of guy brings out the best in me,” concluded Brooks.
