Even though the historic duel between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is not official, the Irishman is already preparing to try to unseat the boxing champion in his own sport. The one who guarantees this is the “Notorious” head coach, John Kavanagh, who revealed that he is already training his pupil for the fight.

Kavanagh admitted that the mentality of McGregor's team is to treat the fight as already official, so that training can be focused on boxing, unlike when Conor trains for an MMA fight, when he needs to work on other disciplines, such as wrestling, jiu -jitsu and muay thai.

“In my opinion, the fight is already happening. That's our mentality. Like you said, there are a lot of fingers in this pie. There are different promotions, different organizations, different committees involved, but I really believe it will happen this year. That's the idea I have. Let the people in suits worry about the paperwork. We are training. Boxing is one of the 10 skills you need in mixed martial arts. But now, we are just doing boxing to release wrestling, jiu-jitsu and Thai boxing. We can just focus on boxing,” commented Kavanagh, in an interview with the North American website Fox Sports.

Kavanagh admitted that his pupil's task is not easy, mainly because Floyd Mayweather is known for his almost impenetrable defensive system. The coach admitted, however, that his team is excited about the new challenge.

“Of course we are preparing to fight arguably one of the best defensive boxers of all time, but the training will be simplified because we just have to box. It’s a new challenge that I’m excited about,” he pointed out.

While the fight is not official, McGregor continues to train and monitor the last weeks of his girlfriend, Dee Devlin's pregnancy. The birth of the UFC champion's first child is scheduled for May, and after that he should focus solely on Floyd Mayweather, even though the duel is not official yet.
