Still angry about the fact that Khabib Nurmagomedov not being able to make weight, canceling the duel for the interim lightweight title, Tony Ferguson changed its focus. The North American now intends to face Nate diaz in his next fight, preferably for the provisional belt, also ignoring the Brazilian Edson Barboza, who comes from three consecutive victories and asked for a rematch with him (Ferguson won the first duel between the two by submission).

“I want to fight a guy at the top of the rankings. I'm one of the best in the world in the lightweight division, and I put my time into it, I fought a lot of people. But the only person I'd like to trade punches with is Nate diaz. He needs to be taught a lesson. Because the rest of the lightweights don't deserve the chance to fight me. Me, the fans and everyone want to see this fight. The Battle of California. Let’s do it”, Ferguson commented to the North American website MMA Junkie.

Specifically regarding Khabib, Ferguson warned that he would only sign a new contract to face the Russian if he had guarantees, probably financial, that he would not be injured (he lost the chance to win a belt and his victory bonus with the cancellation of the fight).

“I would love to have this fight, but doing a whole training camp again to face this guy would be difficult. I want this fight, the fans want it, but it leaves a salty taste in the mouth. I would even train again, but I would have to have some guarantees”, he argued.
