Considered the best welterweight of all time, Georges St Pierre returns to MMA in 2017 to extend his legacy. According to the Canadian himself, his return to the sport has a reason: to guarantee his place at the top of the list of fighters, regardless of weight, that is, GSP wants to become the best fighter of all time.

To get there, the former welterweight champion decided on a new challenge: he will try for the middleweight title, a category above which he established himself between 2008 and 2013, as one of the most dominant belt holders in history. GSP will challenge Michael Bisping in the second semester to join Conor McGregor, B.J. Penn and Randy Couture on the list of athletes with belts in different categories in the UFC. And St. Pierre can still go further: the fighter hasn't ruled out moving down to lightweight and trying for McGregor's division title.

“I weigh around 84kg, 86kg. I'm going to fight at 84kg now. I know some lightweight guys who are heavier in their non-fighting period than I am. It is possible that I will fight in all three of these divisions (lightweight, middleweight and welterweight). But I came back for one reason: I want to make history. I'll be 36 years old when I fight and everything will depend on what happens and how it happens. I don't want to fight until I'm in my early 40s. These will be my last fights and I want to choose them very carefully. When I say carefully, I mean I want to make the best fights possible. Fights that will pave my legacy as the best of all time. Maybe I'll fail, but if I fail, at least I won't have any regrets when I'm 50”, St. Pierre commented on the program “The MMA Hour”.

St. Pierre even had his name considered for a super fight with Conor McGregor, before deciding to turn against Michael Bisping. Additionally, there is the option for GSP to challenge the champion Tyron woodley, who beat his friend Stephen Thompson at UFC 209, and is the current owner of the belt that belonged to him between 2008 and 2013.
