Irritated by the choices of the current middleweight champion, Michael Bisping, who has not fought the main competitors in the division, the former owner of the 84 kg belt. Luke Rockhold thought outside the box for his next fight. Despite fighting two categories below the opponent Fabricio Werdum, the North American asked for a fight with the Brazilian, who was already world heavyweight champion.

“Everyone is liking this new idea I had. I think I and Fabricio Werdum We have scores to settle from our time at Strikeforce. He's a guy I've always wanted to fight. I thought it through very carefully and I like the way our styles match. Since the middleweight division is a mess, I want you to screw them, I'm moving up to heavyweight. Let’s do it!”, challenged Rockhold, in an interview with the North American program “UFC Tonight”.

The fight between Rockhold and Werdum made the news last year, when the Brazilian lost his world title at UFC 198, at home. On that occasion, Werdum was knocked out by Stipe Miocic and Rockhold provoked him. A month later, the American was also knocked out and lost his belt, and Werdum returned the provocations.

Rockhold hasn't fought since June last year, when he was surprised by Bisping. The two were in the main fight of UFC 199, and the Englishman knocked out the North American in the first round, despite having less than two weeks to prepare. Rockhold's original opponent was Chris Weidman, who ended up getting injured and unable to enter the octagon.
