Guilty of 29 charges, former UFC fighter could face life in prison

Former UFC and Bellator fighter, Jonathan Koppenhaver, known as “War Machine”, could be sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty on 29 charges, including domestic violence and false imprisonment against his ex-girlfriend Christy Mack and a man named Corey Thomas. The official sentence will be issued on June 5th, with the possibility of up to life in prison, without the right to appeal.

Koppenhaver was before the public jury at the Clark County District Court in Las Vegas, made up of six women and six men, who deliberated for more than 11 hours, for two days in a row, regarding the 34 accusations against the former fighter. Almost three years ago, in August 2014, War Machine attacked Christy Mack and Corey Thomas, who suffered numerous injuries, such as a punctured lung and several broken bones. After the crime, he was arrested, and Christy celebrated the outcome of the trial.

As an MMA professional, War Machine has a record of 14 wins and five losses, having had one positive and one negative result in the UFC. At Bellator, there were three fights, with two victories and one setback.
