Georges St Pierre left MMA in 2013 due to problems with anti-doping tests. USADA's entry into the UFC helped his return, but there is another issue that bothers the former champion: the weight cutting process. According to GSP, who faces Michael Bisping for the middleweight title in the second half of this year, there needs to be changes in this issue, as a fighter could die one day while losing weight.

“I’m not a fan of the weight cut. I think this needs to be changed, because one day someone will die. One day someone will die, and it will affect us all. It is very bad for your health. There is a certain percentage of dehydration in the body that is critical, you can die if you go beyond that point. It’s very dangerous”, commented the Canadian on the official Ultimate podcast, “UFC Unfiltered”.

Together with the North American athletic commissions, the UFC recently made a small change to the process, moving the official weigh-in to the morning of the day before the fights. However, GSP was also critical of this change. In the fighter's view, athletes can use weighing in the morning before as an excuse to lose even more weight, as they will have more time to rehydrate.

“My health is above my performance. I think re-weighing in the morning of the day before the fight is a bad thing. Because it is seen as an opportunity to cut more weight. So I think it's not good. I told Dana, when I saw him, that I didn’t see it positively”, he pondered.
