UFC Fortaleza suffered another last-minute loss. The featherweight Geoffrey Pepey injured his nose and is out of the event, which takes place this Saturday (11), at the Olympic Training Center, in the capital of Ceará. He would face Kyle Bochniak in the preliminary portion of the event, but was not cleared by Ultimate doctors, who found an injury to his nose, sustained during training for the fight. The information is from the newspaper “Diário do Nordeste”. In a pre-fight examination, a fracture was found at the site, and the UFC medical team required time for the nose bone to calcify and, therefore, there was no release.

This is the second injury that has shaken UFC Fortaleza. Last week, Max Griffin, who would face Serginho Moraes, was also injured (his injury was not disclosed) and ended up being removed from the event. They would face each other in a welterweight duel. Interestingly, both Pepey and Serginho train at the same gym, Evolucion Thai, run by André Dida. Bochniak was removed from the show once and for all, as he was also injured, while Moraes faces his compatriot Davi ramos, who will make his Ultimate debut.

With a record of 13 wins and four losses in MMA, the Brazilian is coming off a triumph over Mike de la Torre in the UFC Brasilia September 2016, recovering from the tough setback to Darren Elkins in July last year, in his first UFC fight outside Brazil (the duel took place at UFC Chicago). In the UFC, Pepey has five wins and four losses, having been runner-up in the featherweight division of the first edition of The Ultimate Fighter Brasil. At the time, he lost to Ron Jason, with whom he later trained at Evolution Thai.

UFC Fortaleza is headlined by a middleweight duel between the former light heavyweight champion Vitor belfort and the promise Kelvin Gastelum. Other prominent names in Brazilian MMA in the UFC will also fight at the event, cases of Mauritius Shogun (handle Gian Villante), Edson Barboza (faces Beneil Dariush), Bethe Correia (fight against Marion Reneau) and Jussier formiga (duels with Ray Borg).
