Few people have so much access to the UFC champion Conor McGregor as John Kavanagh. A personal friend and main trainer of the fighter, the Irish coach gave his opinion on his pupil's next fight. For Kavanagh, founder of Straight Blast Gym, the gym where he trains McGregor, Artem Lobov, Gunnar Nelson, among other European UFC fighters, the UFC lightweight belt holder's duel against Floyd Mayweather will take place soon.

“I'm not aware of the negotiations, but it seems that the time for the fight is approaching. When or under what conditions, I don't know. But it seems that the most likely fight against Mayweather in boxing. And they both want this and are making moves towards making the fight happen. It seems there are several steps to achieve with different commissions involved and various promotions. But it is a fight that is growing and taking shape every day, with more people wanting to watch it. So, I believe it will happen”, commented Kavanagh to the North American program Submission Radio.

Despite saying he is excited about McGregor's adventure in boxing, the coach assured that he would like to see him fight MMA. Kavanagh wants a third fight for his pupil against Nate diaz, a fight against Georges St Pierre or a duel for the unification of the lightweight titles against the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov e Tony Ferguson. The two are dueling for the interim belt in the category and Kavanagh thinks the Russian will get the better of the North American.

“My number one priority is for Conor to fight MMA. It's the selfish side of me and it's what I'd like to see. I have said before and I reaffirm that a new fight against Nate diaz I'm more interested because it's 1-1 and the fighters' styles match well. Another option I like would be to face the winner of Khabib vs. Ferguson. I think Nurmagomedov wins and he would be Conor's opponent. And a third possibility would be Georges St-Pierre. I'm a big fan of his, I learned a lot watching his fights, but it's been a while since he entered the Octagon and things change very quickly in this business. In fact, I think Khabib is an improved version of GSP. But, yes, for me, it would be Nate diaz ou Khabib Nurmagomedov the next opponent
