Flyweight Ian McCall has had his last five fights canceled at the last minute due to various problems. However, before UFC 208, he suffered a shrinkage of his gallbladder after the weight cut that could have resulted in his death. In an interview with UFC commentator Joe Rogan's podcast, McCall revealed that one of Ultimate's doctors warned him that he could have died from the problem in question.

“I have never made weight so easily in my career. After the cut, I started vomiting, but I had eaten some salad, so I figured it was the dressing. But the next day I had only gained 2,5 kg, which is very little. I vomited all day, in front of other fighters at the event. The UFC doctors asked me to go to the hospital and there they told me that I would need to have surgery on my gallbladder, which scared the shit out of me, but it ended up not being necessary. When the doctor tells you “look, you could die, you never know”, I was like “What do you mean?” It was scary,” commented McCall.

The American, who has already recovered from the problem, had a fight scheduled against Jarred Brooks and the two made weight, but the duel was canceled due to McCall's issue. The flyweight had retired after losing to John Lineker at UFC 183, in early 2015, but returned in 2016. However, he has yet to fight again, having had five fights canceled due to being ill or due to injuries to his opponents.
