Without fighting since August 2016, when he was brutally knocked out by Anthony Johnson – in just 13 seconds – at UFC 202, Glover Teixeira guarantees that he has already overcome the setback suffered. About to return to the octagon this Saturday (11), when he faces Jared Cannonier on the main card of UFC 208. in Brooklyn (USA), the Brazilian light heavyweight stated that the recent defeat awakened an 'angry' side within him, which made him return to the gym with even more desire to train.

“I was sad at the time, of course, but on the same day I was like “hey, go ahead. Let’s go and have a beer there.” But, of course, there were times when I woke up and said: “F*ck, what did I do? Why?". And I saw the fight several times… But I was ready to train. I gave myself a week off, because I always do, regardless of victory or defeat. I went back to the gym, as they say, mad, angry, blood in my eyes and ready to train”, guaranteed the Brazilian.

At the time, the lightning knockout suffered against Johnson was greatly compared to that of Conor McGregor applied in José Aldo, in December 2015. According to Glover, the blow helped him 'feel' what he already imagined the featherweight champion had felt.

“It's really difficult to lose so quickly. We like to win quickly, but no one wants to lose quickly. Even more so quickly. I imagine when our idol José Aldo He lost there, I was very sad about that and said: “It must be the biggest sadness in the world for the guy to train, do the whole camp and something like that happens”. And it really happened to me. Do what? It chokes and we have to go back to the gym 100%”, declared Teixeira.

When asked about his next opponent, Teixeira ignored the fact that Cannonier didn't even appear in the top 15 light heavyweights. For him, accustomed to facing the elite of the category, the fact that an opponent is not at the top does not mean that he cannot pose risks during the fight.

“I’m never wrong about that. I've had moments of great confidence, but I never thought any fight would be easy. Any fighter who is there has the criteria to be there, he has knockout power. Even more so at this weight. He's a guy who moves well. We see the fighter and know he is a tough fighter. We understand fighting, we are not just fighters. When we see the fight we understand the fight, we know that the guy is good and dangerous. He's a guy who isn't ranked because maybe he didn't have the opportunity, but he's a tough guy. He has submissions and knockouts, and offers danger everywhere and gaps everywhere. I won’t talk about the gaps, I’ll show you on Saturday for you to see with your own eyes”, he concluded.
