This because Tony Ferguson, Conor's father, revealed that he did not believe, at least at first, that his son could follow a successful path in the sport.

“I didn’t think it was something he could do as a career. It was like that until I saw him in Cage Warriors. When his opponent was called, I saw that black, that music and lights coming. I looked at the guy and he was more mature in years than Conor, he must have been 25, 26 or 27 years old. And I thought: 'Wow, this is my son's opponent'. So they announced Conor and Conor came up with the song. But when he came down the ramp I didn't see a boy there, I saw a man”, revealed Tony, in an interview with the 'BT Sport' channel, adding that he admitted he was wrong in his first assessment.
“This always comes to me, my boy became a man. This comes to me all the time. He got it right. It's not often a parent admits this. But my son was right and his father was wrong. There I knew he had a career,” he concluded.
The first professional MMA fight in Conor McGregor it was in March 2008, when he knocked out Gary Morris. His debut at Cage Warriors, an event mentioned by the Irishman's father, took place two years later, in November 2008. On that occasion, it was finished by Joseph Duffy, who now also works in the UFC. His UFC debut was in 2013, when he knocked out Marcus Brimage. Since then, he has had ten more fights, recording nine wins and just one defeat.
