B.J. Penn was severely punished for Yair Rodriguez in his return to the octagon, which took place last Sunday (15), in the main fight of UFC Phoenix, but, despite the knockout suffered, the Hawaiian has at least one good reason to celebrate. Even with the defeat, the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion received US$150 (around R$500), the biggest salary of the event. His tormentor, 'Pantera', as he is known, pocketed US$100 (approximately 350), not including the night's performance bonuses, which added US$50 to the winners.
The only Brazilian representative on the card, bantamweight Augusto Tanquinho, who beat Frankie Saenz in the fight of the night and achieved his first UFC triumph, earned US$20 (around R$64), including a US$10 bonus for victory. The second highest salary on the show was experienced Joe lauzon, who beat Marcin Held in a very controversial decision by the judges – he received US$116 (R$373).
