Anderson, considered by many critics to be the greatest fighter in UFC history, hasn't won a fight since October 2012. After scoring 10 title defenses in the middleweight division and three superfights in the light heavyweight division, Spider is living in astral hell. He lost the title to Chris Weidman, in July 2013, and ended up breaking his leg in the rematch, in December of the same year.

Upon his long-awaited return, in January 2015, Silva hit Nick Diaz, but the duel was reverted to a No Contest (fight without result), as both athletes were caught in an anti-doping test. Afterwards, Anderson fell to the champion Michael Bisping, in a disputed duel in England, and came to complain about the judges' decision. Coming from a series of defeats, Anderson offered to replace the injured Jon Jones at UFC 200 and moved up a category to face Daniel Cormier. In a duel that surprised everyone, the Brazilian fell to the judges' decision, but was applauded by the public for having faced the light heavyweight champion without any training.

In its turn, Derek Brunson, 33 years old, also comes from a setback. The North American was beaten by Robert whittaker with a technical knockout, in Melbourne, Australia, in November 2016. His streak of five wins in the organization was interrupted.

The fight between Anderson and Brunson will be the second most important of UFC 208. In the main attraction of the night, Holly holm e Germaine DeRandamie duel for the unprecedented women's featherweight title. The card also features another Brazilian in action on the main card. Ronaldo Jacare maintains the race for the middleweight belt against Tim Boetsch.
