After confirmation of the rematch between the champion Tyron woodley and the challenger Stephen Thompson, the brazilian Demian Maia reaffirmed his desire to wait for the winner and guarantee his chance to seek the UFC welterweight title.
Through his official Twitter, Demian expressed his resignation at once again being passed over in a title fight, but maintained his speech.
“It’s official (the rematch between Woodley and Thompson), so I wish you both a great fight and I trust that the winner will give me the opportunity that was once given to you two”, wrote the Brazilian, who received the support of the champion.
“You have a lot of class, I hope to share the octagon with you one day. If it's any consolation, I think we should be fighting right now,” commented Woodley.
Demian hasn't fought since August 2016, when he submitted Carlos Condit. He is on a six-fight win streak and would be the next challenger for the welterweight title, after Stephen Thompson. But as the title fight between Woodley and Thompson ended in a draw, the UFC preferred to schedule a rematch, which will take place in March, at UFC 209.
