Max Holloway continues with the routine of provocations José Aldo. After complaining that he couldn't commit to fighting the Brazilian at UFC 208 because he wasn't sure he'd show up, the interim featherweight champion compared his record of consecutive wins (10) with the number of “Scarface” fights for the UFC and he assured that he does not see his provisional belt as fake:
“I have 10 wins in a row and that's a bigger number of wins than this guy has fighting in the UFC. And is he the first champion? Speaks seriously! Some people say my interim title is fake, but as far as I remember, I was the only one who actually won the belt fighting. This was not given to me like they did to the other guy”, Holloway declared to the North American website “FloCombat”.
Holloway became interim champion by winning Anthony Pettis in the main fight of UFC 206. Initially, the duel would not be valid for the provisional belt, but Ultimate promoted a change in the division by taking the linear title from Conor McGregor and give it to José Aldo. Thus, the most important fight of UFC 206 would have a title on the line, even if it was interim.
