Ferguson, however, does not consider the Irishman a legitimate weight champion, so much so that he is not even considering facing him in his next fight. According to “El Cucuy”, Conor likes to choose his opponents.

“This guy is choosing opponents. He is a champion on paper. When you're doing that, of course you're going to watch whoever you're going to face… I can't see Conor as champion. To me, it's like the title is vacant. Conor is going to take some time off and I won't even mention his name because this guy fought someone in the lightweight division,” he declared, in an interview with the radio program 'Submission Radio' (USA).

With McGregor out of his plans, Tony already knows who he would like to face next: the Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov, 1st in the rankings and undefeated in his career, with 23 wins in 23 fights.

“That’s what the fans want, they want to see this fight. People are asking. They know that Conor is out, they know that Khabib needs a fight and they know that we were supposed to fight in April, but he backed down. He had some issues to resolve,” he said.

please note that Tony Ferguson e Khabib Nurmagomedov were scheduled to face each other in April this year, in the main fight of the UFC Tampa, but an injury to the American prevented the clash from getting off the ground.
