UFC president Dana White rejected the possibility of Conor McGregor move from MMA to boxing to face multi-champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., as has been speculated by the North American press for a few months. The Ultimate leader said that no athletic commission would agree to pit the Irishman, who has never boxed professionally, against “Money”.
“I have no idea what Conor is doing. Conor is Conor. But he has a contract with me. Who knows what this guy's deal is? I just let Conor be Conor. And the other thing is that it's funny to talk about this fight (against Floyd Mayweather) and what could happen. But what commission would allow this fight?” asked White, in an interview with the North American website Yahoo Sports.
Rumors of a fight between the lightweight champion and retired Floyd Mayweather gained strength when, last Wednesday (30), the Irishman's request for a license to box was accepted by the California Athletic Commission. Under state rules, McGregor could box professionally, but it is unlikely he will get a fight against multi-champion Mayweather in his professional debut.
