New UFC board fires two Hall of Fame members

Former champions Chuck Linddell and Matt Hughes were fired by Ultimate's new owners, WME-IMG executives

The UFC's new owners, WME-IMG executives, continue to reformulate the company's contract staff. After a recent mass layoff, new employees were fired and no longer work for Ultimate, including two well-known names in the world of MMA and members of the organization's Hall of Fame: former champions Chuck Liddell and Matt hugs. In addition to them, around 15 other employees were also dismissed. The information is from the “MMA Fighting” website (USA).

Liddell is a former light heavyweight champion and has been retired since 2010. Currently, “The Iceman”, as he was known, held the role of executive vice president of business development. Hughes, in turn, held the welterweight belt between 2001 and 2007, having beaten names like Georges St Pierre e Royce gracie. Retired since 2011, he was the current vice president of athlete development and government relations.

Through his social networks, Hughes commented on the dismissal. “The UFC was excellent for me. Times change, and I understand the decision that was made. I'll move on. My family and I are fine. I love adventures and who knows what’s next for me?” wrote the former fighter.

The WME-IMG Group purchased the UFC for US$1 billion in July this year. Since then, some changes have been made regarding the team responsible for different areas of the event.
