Fighters show solidarity with Chapecoense tragedy

Several fighters posted messages of support and mourning on their social networks

The tragedy involving the plane carrying the Chapecoense football club to Medellín, Colombia, which crashed in the early hours of Tuesday (29), killing more than 70 people, shook the entire world. As could not be otherwise, several MMA fighters also shared messages of support and mourning on their social networks.

Anderson Silva was one of the first to post a message on his “Instagram” account. In a video, the former UFC middleweight champion did not hide his depression when commenting on the case, and asked his fans to pray for the families of the victims.

The featherweight champion José Aldo also showed solidarity with the tragedy. The fighter published a video in which Chapecoense players celebrated in the club's locker room. In the caption, Aldo wrote: “Tomorrow? Make the most of every day we are allowed here. Strength to all family members and may the image of this joy remain. Sad."

The heavy weight Fabricio Werdum shared a video in which defender Filipe Machado, who died in the tragedy, records, from inside the plane, the last images of the delegation. The fighter said he was very sad about what happened, but highlighted that the last image that remains is of the players' happiness.

Understand the case:

The plane carrying the Chapecoense team for the first game of the Copa Sudamericana final suffered an accident in the metropolitan region of Medellín, Colombia, according to confirmation from Medellín's civil defense. According to civil defense, 78 people were on board the Chapecoense flight, 72 of whom died in the tragedy, while another six survived. From the Chapecó club, 19 players, the coach and all other members of the technical committee who were present died. Only goalkeeper Jackson Follmann, defender Neto and full-back Alan Ruschel came out alive. A flight attendant, an aircraft technician and a journalist also survived. Starting goalkeeper Danilo was found alive, but he succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital.
