Serra comments on the Hughes x St. Pierre duel

Considered the big casualty at UFC 79, Matt Serra withdrew from defending his welterweight title against wrestler Matt Hugues thanks to a herniated disc in his lower back.

“I was showing a mount position, when I felt a pop, it felt like I was hit by a stun gun. I've fought injured before, but at the moment I can't even put my shoes on. The most annoying thing is that I got injured right before the fight against Matt hugs”, declared the black belt to the website MMAweekly, referring to the feud with Hughes, generated on the reality show “The Ultimate Fighter”, where the two are coaches of two rival teams.

Serra's replacement in the fight on December 29th will be former division champion Georges Saint-Pierre, who will compete with Hughes for an interim title, as Serra will have the chance to fight the winner of the duel as soon as he recovers.

PUBLICITY:

“I don’t care about this fight, I’m not going to be upset with anyone. The chances of Saint-Pierre beating him up (Matt hugs) are even bigger than the first time, so I'm going to fight Saint-Pierre. I really wanted to fight Matt for several reasons, but I will be back”, concluded the former Renzo Gracie student.
