A fight of UFC Sao Paulo, an event held last Saturday (19), had its result officially changed. The duel between Darren stewart and Francimar Bodão, who opened the show's program, was declared no-contest due to a headbutt given by the Englishman to the Brazilian.
Originally, Stewart was declared the winner via technical knockout. However, Bodão complained about a headbutt given by his rival moments before the end of the duel, which would have played an important role in the conclusion of the fight.
O UFC Sao Paulo was the first regulated by the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission, which had the using instant replay to analyze decisive moves. The entity reviewed the alleged headbutt and concluded that there were no irregularities. However, after Bodão officially protested the result, the result was reviewed and annulled.
“The incident had consequences for the result of the fight, as it was part of the move that ended the fight. The referee would have acted differently and stopped the fight if he had seen the incident from a better angle in the octagon”, explained CABMMA, in a statement sent to the press this Tuesday morning (22).
Other similar cases in the past have not been reviewed, such as the fight between Scott Jorgensen and Jussier formiga, in Natal (RN). On that occasion, in 2014, the Brazilian submitted the North American after a headbutt, but the result of the fight was maintained.
