Winner on the main card of UFC Sao Paulo, last Saturday (19), Claudia Gadelha recognizes that she is going through a difficult time in her hopes of competing again for the Ultimate women's straw division belt. Therefore, the Brazilian suggested a duel against the first champion of the category, Carla esparza, to once again stand out on the weight scene.
Esparza lost the belt to Joanna Jedrzejczyk, in March 2015. The Brazilian believes that, if she beats the North American, she will be on the ideal path for a new chance. “I really want to fight Carla, I've been asking to fight her for a long time. She was the first champion of the category in the UFC. I'll fight anyone, I've said it several times. So, if they give me Carla now, and after I beat her, I'm up for fighting for the title again”, said the fighter.
Claudinha has already been defeated on two occasions by the current champion of the division, the last of which was in July this year. Therefore, she considers that an eventual defeat of the Polish woman would also make her path easier, although she does not believe that this will happen. “The easiest way would be for her [Joanna] to lose and for me to face this person. But I think it’s difficult for anyone today to beat Joanna in this category, she’s the most dominant athlete in the strawweight division,” she praised.
The Brazilian fighter is 27 years old and has five fights in the UFC. In addition to the two setbacks for Joanna, Claudinha beat Tina Lahdemaki, Jessica Aguilar and Cortney Casey.
