Diaz, who faced McGregor twice in 2016, stated that the organization refused to give him tickets for UFC 205. According to the American, the decision was made to avoid any speculation regarding a trilogy.

“As soon as McGregor won, hundreds of people turned to me and started looking at me. I thought, 'What do you guys want me to do?' The UFC didn't even want to give me a ticket for this fight. They gave my place to Nick Jonas. The UFC knows it's a bad idea for him. Why didn't I get a ticket to this fight? I even said, 'I'll leave him alone. Just give me a ticket,' but they wouldn't let me in there. I think they wanted to hide me. They wanted to put him on a pedestal more than they already did,” he said, in an interview with the North American website “ESPN”.

Diaz recognized the importance of McGregor's achievement, but was cautious when analyzing the feat. “Congratulations to Conor. He did a great job, he has two belts. But he and I know what happened in our fights. This 'greatest of all time' talk needs to stop. I don’t remember any of these all-time greats getting beat up in their last two fights,” he teased.

At UFC 205, McGregor ran over Eddie Alvarez to become lightweight champion. The Irishman thus became the only athlete in history to hold two Ultimate belts at the same time. Before that, he and Diaz faced each other twice, with one victory for each side.
