“I've been in this game for years, I've never defined myself by a victory and I'll never define myself by a defeat. The game is like that. Sometimes you win like crazy, then you lose. Then you put on your suit and answer questions. It's incredible what McGregor did. I take my hat off to him, he was phenomenal and continues to do an incredible job for MMA”, admitted Alvarez, in an interview with the website 'MMA Junkie' (USA) shortly after his defeat.

When asked about his performance, Eddie was honest when he said that he adopted the wrong strategy and ended up paying dearly for it. “I fought a bad fight. That was stupid, it was stupid. The idea was not for me to go there and exchange with him. I didn't use wrestling enough. The plan was for me to go there and take him down. It was obvious, taking down a boxer, and I didn't do it. I don't know why I didn't do it, and I ended up paying for it. He simply capitalized on it”, analyzed the former champion.

“It was his speed that got me. The first knockdown I took, I remember sitting there thinking about how fast that had been. Whatever it was, it was quick. I've been there many times in my career, I've been knocked down several times, I don't panic. I got myself together and went there again. His speed and timing were simply very good”, added Alvarez, praising, once again, McGregor’s skills.
