In the first fight on the main card, Rachel Pennington painted the zebra and beat the former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate in the unanimous decision of the judges (29×28, 30×27, 30×27). In the interview after the fight, still in the octagon, Miesha Tate surprised by announcing his retirement from MMA.
“I've been doing this for over 10 years, I'm announcing my retirement. It was because of the result. I love this sport, but it’s over for me”, declared Miesha, visibly shaken.

At 30, Miesha Tate leaves MMA with a record of 18 wins and seven losses. In the UFC, there were five positive results and four negative results. She won the bantamweight belt by finishing Holly holm in March this year, at UFC 196. However, in her first title defense, she was surpassed by the Brazilian Amanda nunes at UFC 200 last July.
The fight
The two fighters started the fight by throwing crosses, but both defended themselves well. Pennington hit a good one right on Tate's nose, which he felt. Miesha tries to get back, but is hit in the counterattack and attacks again. Tate tries the takedown, but is surprised by Pennington, who grabs her opponent's neck and tries the submission. With the support of the fence, Miesha manages to defend herself and escapes the position. In the final minute, the fight went to the ground and Tate tried to take the back, but the round ended.
Pennington returns to the second round, landing a good sequence of jabs and straight at Tate, who seeks the clinch and applies knees. The fight is truncated, with Raquel striking and gaining an advantage over the former champion. After exchanging positions in the clinch, Tate manages to free himself from his opponent, lands a cross and receives a straight right in response before the horn sounds.
In the last round, Tate started pulling Pennington into guard. From below, Miesha tries to apply an armbar, which is well defended by her opponent. Next, Tate tries a triangle, but Pennington gets out of position and lands another blow. Pennington manages to lasso Tate's neck again, who gets out of position but stays low. Tate manages to get up and tries a double leg, without success. Miesha, frustrated, continued to be dominated by her opponent until the end of the round.
