With an eye on regaining the belt, Dos Anjos faces Ferguson at UFC Mexico

Brazilian wants to recover from recent defeat against a strong North American in this Saturday's main fight (5)

rafael-x-fergusonDetermined to resume his path towards the UFC lightweight belt, Rafael dos Anjos will have a tough mission ahead. The Brazilian, who lost the title in his most recent fight, will face Tony Ferguson in the main fight of UFC Fight Night México, an event that takes place this Saturday (5), in the country's capital.

The fight will play a fundamental role in the former champion's aspirations in the category. Dos Anjos is looking for a convincing victory to not only show that he still occupies a position in the lightweight elite, but also to be able to claim a new immediate title fight.

In July, Rafael was dethroned from the category when he was knocked out by Eddie Alvarez in the first round. This time without the presence of renowned trainer Rafael Cordeiro in his corner, the fighter has the important mission of showing that he is “flying low” in the Octagon.

The fight also has great weight for Ferguson. Riding on an eight-fight winning streak, “El Cucuy” knows that a convincing victory against a former champion could be enough to guarantee him the opportunity to fight for the title next. However, faced with a confused category, Dos Anjos and Ferguson seek not only to win, but also to convince to be rewarded with a title fight.

The event in Mexico City will also be crucial for the future of Charles of the Bronx. Coming from defeat to Anthony Pettis, in August, the fighter from Guarujá accepted a duel with Ricardo Lamas to turn things around and remain on the radar for a possible title fight at featherweight.

However, the fight took on a dramatic tone with yet another failure by Do Bronx at the official weigh-in. This time, the Brazilian was no less than nine kilos over the limit, which represented his fourth infraction in his last ten fights. Thus, Charles needs victory more than ever to minimize the damage and not find himself in an even more complicated position.

Something similar happened with Felipe Sertanejo. The Brazilian, who is looking for his third consecutive victory against Erik Perez, registered a weight 0,8 kg above the bantamweight division limit.

Another Brazilian to participate in the event is Douglas D'Silva, who returns to the Octagon after a long period of inactivity against Henry Briones.
