It is common to see MMA fighters pursuing a second profession, almost always to help with their monthly income. Almost always, the branches chosen are in the academies themselves, where they fulfill the role of trainers when they are not preparing for a fight. However, the case of American Cody McKenzie, former UFC fighter, is somewhat peculiar: he works with the legal production of marijuana in the state of Washington, in the United States.

“I've always been a hard worker, but I've never been very smart. Now, with the legal marijuana industry taking off, it's been a good way to raise some money,” said McKenzie, in an interview with the website “MMA Junkie” (USA).

However, despite working outside of MMA, Cody has not yet retired. For him, fights are just another way to make money, since the desire to be champion is not part of his priorities.

“I don’t want to be world champion, I just want to make money. I'm a good fighter, but I'm not a champion. And in this sport, if you're not a world champion, you're not going to make a lot of money. So, if I think a fight is worth it, I fight. Like when I took a trip to Italy. But I work. Last year I spent probably seven months on fishing boats. Fortunately, my girlfriend supports me”, he added.
