UFC fires four Brazilians in new 'barge' of layoffs

The UFC's feared wave of dismissals came back to haunt fighters this weekend. The organization released 13 athletes from its squad, including four Brazilians  Gaius Monster, Glaico France, Leonardo Leleco and Alberto Uda. In the middle of the week, the heavyweight Antonio Pezão already had contract termination agreed with the show.

The recent record of dismissed Brazilians was not good. Glaico France, champion of TUF Brasil 4 arrived on the show with morale, but only had three fights on the show. He won the reality show final against Fernando Butcher, but was defeated by James Vick and Gregor Gillespie.

Monstro, who had been in the UFC since 2012 and had seven UFC fights, accumulated consecutive losses to Josh Samman and Brad Tavares.

Leonardo Leleco and Alberto Uda debuted in the Octagon in 2016. They fought twice in the organization and lost both times.

In addition to the Brazilians, the other athletes released by the organization were: Shane Campbell, Kevin Casey, Cody East, Cory Hendricks, Enrique Marin, Tamdan McCrory, Kenny Robertson and Sean Spencer.
