“It's something I haven't had much of since my fight against [Ronaldo] Jacaré, which is the motivation for the competition. Aggressiveness, understanding that this is not the time to be a poet. I think we lack that spark of competition, of being in the game. I always need her. Of course, I'm close to ending my journey as an athlete, and I want to end it with this spark, not only for myself, but for my children, my wife, my fans, my coaches, my friends, even my sponsors need Therefore, let me be the way I always have been”, said Belfort, in an interview with the “Combate” channel website.

According to the veteran, until the flame is lit again, there is no reason to think about possible future opponents. “I think that, suddenly, in the current moment, to say what makes sense, so many things can make sense. My focus now is finding that flame. This is one of the fights that makes sense right now, but there are many fights that make sense. The important thing now is that I can't be thinking about this, because my flame is not in agreement with my opponent. I have to find this internal flame, it's an internal thing. We are literally [sic] starting to light this torch,” he explained.
