An old name from the UFC featherweight division is back. Chan sung jung, who competed for the category title in 2013, announced that he will return to action after a long layoff and has already asked for a specific opponent: the former lightweight champion B.J. Penn.
Jung, better known by his nickname “Korean zombie”, took a break from fighting in October 2014 to complete two years of mandatory military service in his country, South Korea. Now, he is aiming for a fight against Penn, who has moved down to the featherweight category.
“For the last six months, there is one fighter I have been wanting to face: B.J. Penn. He was a lightweight back in the day, so I never thought about fighting him. But now that he's moved down to featherweight, I'm among the fighters who would like to face him. Now that I'm coming back, and BJ is coming back, I'd love the chance to face him,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
At 29 years old, “Korean zombie” had three victories in the octagon, over Leonard Garcia, Mark hominick and Dustin Porier. In August 2013, he challenged for the featherweight title against José Aldo, but was defeated by technical knockout after injuring his shoulder. That was his last UFC fight to date.
