The UFC lightweight belt already has a date and place defined for it to be contested. After the defending champion Frankie Edgar tie with Gray Maynard at UFC 125, in January, the fight would be held at UFC 130, in May, but both athletes were injured and the duel ended up postponed. Now with the fighters recovered, the show's organizers have scheduled the fight for UFC 136, an event that takes place on October 8, in Houston, in the United States.
This will be the third confrontation involving Edgar and Maynard. In the first fight, held at UFC Fight Night 13, in 2008, Gray defeated Frankie in a unanimous decision by the judges and suffered the only defeat in the current champion's record. In the second fight between lightweights, which took place in January this year, it was marked by balance. Maynard started better and almost knocked out Edgar in the first round, but Ricardo Cachorrão's pupil managed to recover, evened out the fight and after 25 minutes the side judges declared a draw.
