Georges St-Pierre is no longer a UFC fighter. The former Ultimate welterweight champion announced this Monday (17) that he has terminated his contract with the organization and is now free to sign with another company. As a bonus, he confirmed his desire to fight again.

“They told us to wait for the new owners. We waited for weeks. We had a conversation with Lorenzo (Fertitta, former owner of the UFC), everything was agreed. But, with the new owners, everything changed. The new owners said that Lorenzo was out of the decision. It was a shock, as we thought we were almost there. My lawyer, James Quinn, gave them a legal margin to settle, to give me a fight, because I wanted to fight. I was waiting for the call. I didn't hear anything until the last day of the deadline, at night. When that didn't happen, he filed a lawsuit and told me I was free”, said GSP, in an interview with the North American program 'The MMA Hour'.

Asked about his relationship with Dana White, president of the UFC, the Canadian avoided criticizing his former boss, but admitted that he was upset by the president's recent statements, which insinuated that GSP was no longer in the mood to fight.

“I don't hate Dana, because everything I am, I owe a large part to him. He is the best prosecutor in the world. Everyone believes what he says. But when he says I'm not ready to fight, he doesn't know. He doesn't know what it's like to be a fighter. I'm a fighter, only I can say that. I was very disappointed,” said St-Pierre.

With no expected return date, the former Ultimate welterweight champion reveals that he has other market options to return to acting, however, the focus now is on recovering mentally from all the confusion surrounding the rumors about his return to the Octagon .

“I need to step away from the spotlight now, take some time off. It drained me emotionally. I was hearing the rumors and getting excited, wondering “holy crap, this is going to happen.” I thought we were very, very close. They even talked about Robbie Lawler. But then I saw that Lawler left the New York event, I got frustrated. There were a lot of rumors about me fighting Lawler, Bisping, Woodley. And I'm the type of guy who thinks about the fight all the time when they score. And it affected me mentally. It exhausted me. I was very emotionally involved. It doesn't make sense that this fight wasn't scheduled for Toronto. It was a victory for both sides. I was really excited a few weeks ago, but now I don't know. I'm entering uncharted territory. I’m going to sit down with my team of advisors and see what the best decision to make is,” he concluded.
