Patrício Pitbull is injured and postpones Bellator title fight

The Brazilian Patrício “Pitbull” Freire will have to postpone his fight for the Bellator featherweight belt against the current champion Joe Warren. Initially scheduled for the 47th edition of the event, which takes place on the 23rd, the clash was canceled this afternoon (05) due to a fracture in the thumb and a strain in the ligaments in the Tupiniquim athlete's left hand.

“Now that Bellator has made (the fight) official, I won’t be able to fight Warren. Depending on my recovery, the doctor told me that I will be released by the end of November”, the fighter posted on his Twitter.

Pitbull reached the title of title challenger after winning the organization's featherweight GP. After overcoming Armenian Georgi Karakhanyan, in the quarterfinals, and his compatriot Wilson reis, in the semifinals, the tough guy defeated the American Daniel Straus by unanimous decision of the judges in the final of the competition, held last May at Bellator 45.

“I will spend six weeks with my hand immobilized and another month in physiotherapy, then I will return to training lightly. Thank you all for the support. I will do everything to get better as soon as possible and win the belt”, added Pitbull.

 

While awaiting his opponent's recovery, Warren will be in action at the Bellator bantamweight GP. The North American is scheduled to fight on September 24th in the 51st edition of the event, where he will face Cuban Alexis Vila in the quarterfinals of the competition.
