The only Brazilian representative at UFC on Versus 4, the lightweight Charles “from the Bronx” He did well on Sunday night (26) in the octagon set up in the city of Pittsburgh, United States. The tough guy used his sharp Jiu-Jitsu to submit the North American Nik lentz in the second round of the fight valid for the preliminary card of the night.
After being superior in the initial five minutes of the fight, Charles returned to action willing to end the dispute as quickly as possible. With the fight taking place predominantly on the ground, Charles escaped a guillotine applied by Lentz to then apply a knee while his opponent was in the three-point position in the octagon, an illegal blow according to the unified rules.
The referee continued the fight, despite the demonstration of the public present at CONSOL Energy Center who reacted immediately after the illegal knee given by the Tupiniquim athlete. Taking advantage of Lentz's oversight, Charles wasted no time and applied a fair rear-naked choke that forced the American to give up the fight two minutes and 48 seconds into the second round.
“I apologize to Lentz, but I came here to show that I am back in the Ultimate. It was supposed to be a big victory. What happened was a fatality, because I was setting a good rhythm in the fight”, said the Brazilian after the fight.
Despite having his arm raised by the referee, Charles will still have to wait for a decision from the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission, the body responsible for sanctioning the event, which will again analyze the video of the confrontation. If the commissioners understand that the irregular blow was decisive for the Brazilian's victory, the result of the fight may be changed to No Contest.
In the main attraction of this edition of UFC on Versus, the Frenchman Cheick kongo and the North American Pat barry They engaged in a frank striking duel from the first minute of the fight. After being put in trouble due to a good sequence of blows from Barry, the Frenchman showed his recovery power and, with a right uppercut, took the North American to the canvas two minutes and 39 seconds into the fight.
