The list of Brazilian fighters in the UFC was reinforced today (18) with the signing of the welterweight Ronny Markes. Shooto Brasil champion, the tough guy has his debut in the event scheduled for August 14th at UFC on Versus 5, where he will replace the injured player Stephan bonnar in the fight against the Czech Karlos Vemola.
Markes arrives in Ultimate with a record of 11 wins and just one loss. In his most recent fight, the Athlete from Nova União beat his compatriot Paulão Filho, by unanimous decision of the judges, in April this year at the International Fighter Championship. With this result, Markes reached the mark of four undefeated fights in his career.
In turn, Vemola will have his third fight as a UFC athlete. After debuting with a defeat to Jon Madsen in the 116th edition of the event, the Czech redeemed himself by beating the American Seth Petruzelli by technical knockout (punches and elbows) at UFC 122, held last November.
Markes will be the only Brazilian representative at UFC on Versus 5, which has, in total, 12 fights on its card. The main attraction of the night will be the Englishman Dan hardy and North American Chris Lytle in a duel valid for the welterweight division. Check out the full list of clashes below:
