The statements of José Aldo about a possible retirement continues to attract the attention of not only MMA fans, but also fighters. Frankie Edgar, Aldo's last opponent, spoke out about the episode and showed support for the Brazilian, highlighting that meritocracy is not always put first.

“I understand your frustration. I've been in the same situation as him, when they promise you something and they don't deliver. (The UFC) is an event and people want to see these characters. What's most important isn't always the fight you're involved in and that's what's happening now with Aldo. He probably deserved a chance to be the champion of the 65,7-pound division, because Conor isn't going down again, or he deserved to be the next one to face Conor. But things are like that, you need to deal with them, life is not fair”, he said in an interview with the radio program “The Luke Thomas Show” (USA).

Despite not agreeing with the division's current scenario, Edgar praised McGregor's latest performance and showed interest in a possible duel with the Irishman.

“McGregor is the likely favorite. I was very impressed with your second fight against Nate diaz, because he was tough and showed courage. It wasn't like Nate to get tired, but I know he came into the fight coming off an injury, so that played a part too. I would like to test my wrestling against anyone, but especially Conor,” he concluded.

After being defeated by Aldo in the unanimous decision of the judges at UFC 200, in July, Frankie Edgar return to the octagon against Jeremy Stephens at UFC 205, on November 12th, in an event that will mark the organization's debut in New York, precisely on the same card as the confrontation between Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez.
