Max Holloway criticized the Brazilian again José Aldo. After saying that Aldo was afraid to face him, Holloway commented on Aldo's controversial decision to retire and stated that the Brazilian does not deserve a rematch with Conor McGregor. For him, the fact that he lost in just 13 seconds made the public lose interest in watching a new confrontation between Aldo and the Irishman.

“This whole thing with Aldo, and everyone thinking he was the best for ten years, that he was unbeatable and untouchable. Then the whole Conor thing happened, he got knocked out and everyone was pissed that he didn't get the rematch after 13 seconds. These guys need to educate themselves in martial arts. How many times was Aldo removed from the main fight? Not counting the times with Conor, how many times has Aldo been taken out of a fight? This has happened several times. People keep saying that Aldo deserves this, deserves that. How can someone deserve something if they have already been taken away from every event multiple times? People say 13 seconds… who in the world wants to see a rematch after 13 seconds? I guarantee that no one wants to see that”, said Holloway, in an interview with the North American website ‘MMA Fighting’.

Despite the criticism, Max was sensible when commenting on his current situation in the category and admitted that he does not have the same reputation as Aldo, but highlighted that he only needs good opportunities to reach the same level as his opponents.

“I'm not a big name like Aldo. I'm not as big as he is now because Aldo had the opportunity to fight a big name and he took advantage, he made his way to the top. Just like McGregor did. He fought some big names to get to that level. Where's my big name that I can go out there and bash? I won Cub swanson, I beat Jeremy Sthepens, everyone was telling me they wanted me to fight Frankie, and I've been calling out Frankie. Before Chad Mendes being suspended, I've been calling out for him too. Damn, me and my team was begging for Frankie Edgar at UFC 205. This (not facing big names) is not my fault”, he concluded.
