UFC changes rules to reduce judge errors

Dana White changes UFC rules

In an attempt to attract more audiences and minimize possible errors in the judges' decisions, the UFC announced, on Thursday night, a change in its rules. From now on, all of the organization's main fights will have five rounds, instead of the usual three rounds, when there is no belt up for grabs. The statement was made by Dana White, after the UFC 131 press conference.

In addition to holding a longer main attraction, the UFC seeks with this decision to minimize the possibility of errors in the judges' assessment. An example of this happened at UFC 123, in November last year, when the American Quinton “Rampage” Jackson acknowledged that he was surpassed by the Brazilian Lyoto Machida, but ended up taking the dispute in a controversial split decision by the judges (29×28, 28×29, 29×28).

PUBLICITY:

The new rule will only be valid after UFC 133, which takes place on August 6, as the duel Rashad evans e Phil Davis, who will be the main fight of the show, already had a contract signed for just three rounds.
