The Brazilian Demian Maia face Mark Munoz at UFC 131, in a confrontation that marks a duel of styles. Considered as one of the greatest jiu-jitsu specialists in the UFC, the athlete from São Paulo will face a wrestling beast. Without worrying about his opponent's strategy, Demian believes that Munoz will try to use takedowns and work with punches from above, but the Brazilian says he is prepared for this situation.
“I think it will be a ground fight,” said Demian, on MMA Junkie radio. “I know he's very strong when he's on top, but I'm also very comfortable on the bottom. Even though he knocked out his last opponent, I don't think the fight will stay,” added the Brazilian.
If he manages to defeat Munoz, Demian would have his third consecutive victory since his defeat in the fight for the middleweight belt, when he lost to his compatriot Anderson Silva at UFC 112, in May of last year. In no rush, Maia is looking for a new opportunity to fight for the organization's title.
“I think a lot about the title. I know that in each fight I need to become a better fighter. So if I improve with each performance, I’ll have a chance to fight (for the belt) again,” he said. “I know that commercially it would be better for another athlete to compete for the title, but I am a fighter and not a businessman”, concluded the Brazilian.
The confrontation between Demian Maia e Mark Munoz is on the main card of UFC 131, an event that takes place on the 11th, in Vancouver, Canada. The show will have as its main attraction the duel between the Brazilian Júnior Cigano and the North American Shane carwin, a duel that will give the winner the chance to fight for the UFC heavyweight title.
