There was a lot of talk in the first half of 2016 about a possible boxing superfight between Floyd Mayweather and the UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor. However, the boxer himself admitted that he had already given up on getting the plan off the ground, as he was unable to reach an agreement with the Irishman.

Mayweather retired from boxing last year, and has already made it clear that he would only return to action if it was in a fight with McGregor. Even though he publicly showed his intentions to schedule the duel, the North American revealed that the agreement was not possible.

“I tried to make the fight happen between me and Conor McGregor, but we were unable to reach an agreement. So, we have to move on. But it's crazy to talk about fighting with Conor McGregor. There are several other boxing fighters who are now talking about facing him, but I was the first”, commented Mayweather, in an interview with the YouTube channel “Fight Hype”.

Mayweather, 39, was long considered the highest-paid athlete in the world. The American left the fights with a perfect record, with 49 victories in 49 fights. McGregor fought last month in the UFC and won Nate diaz in the judges' decision.
