“UFC will try to bring me back,” says Couture

Randy Couture marked his name in the history of the UFC, being alongside B.J. Penn the only athletes to be champions in two different weight categories (heavyweight and light heavyweight). But after being knocked out by Lyoto Machida At UFC 129, in April, the 48-year-old American announced that he would hang up his gloves and retire. However, less than a month after the announcement, the “Captain of America”, as Couture is known, stated that the UFC should try to prevent him from retiring.

“I think it was the right time to stop competing,” Randy said. “I know I have a long way to go, and I think they (UFC) will try to bring me back, but I'm comfortable with my decision. It was the right time for me”, added Couture, in an interview with the North American website MMA Fighting.

Randy Couture, who in his 14-year career had 19 wins and 11 losses, had already announced his retirement in 2006, but returned in 2007, when he defeated Tim Sylvia and won the UFC heavyweight belt.
