The rivalry between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velásquez is close to having a new chapter. After both declared that they would like to face each other again, Ultimate acted quickly and scheduled the duel for UFC 207, on December 30th, in Las Vegas (USA), in the last event of 2016.

Initially, the desire of the two athletes was to fight for the heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic, but the current champion, who has already fought three times this year, announced that he intends to take a vacation and return only in 2017. Therefore, the confrontation between Werdum and Velásquez would serve as a kind of eliminator, with the winner consolidating himself as the next challenger to the division belt. The information is from the website 'MMA Fighting' (USA).

Interestingly, both Fabrício and Cain defeated the same fighter in their last appearances: the American Travis Browne. Velásquez defeated him by technical knockout at UFC 200 in July, while 'Vai, Cavalo' dominated his boyfriend Ronda Rousey last Saturday (10), at UFC 203, with a unanimous decision victory.

Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velásquez faced each other for the first time in June 2015, in a dispute valid for the heavyweight title. On that occasion, Werdum, who had won the interim belt, submitted his rival in the third round and became champion of the category.
